Crawls Glaze (CR)
⦁ 473 ml brush-on glaze
⦁ Firing range: 1200 - 1250°C
⦁ Generally suitable for use on dinnerware
CR-17 is a glossy blush glaze that forms raised shapes of varying sizes and shapes when fired.
The result is a surface with unpredictable, natural patterns that give each piece a unique texture and visual appeal. The chip pattern shown was applied to AMACO No. 11 A-Mix white stoneware.
Apply 1–4 even coats of glaze to bisque fired at 1060°C. Allow each coat to dry almost completely, then glaze the next coat before significant cracks appear. Crawl glazes form hairline cracks when drying, so handle with care. For added durability, apply on a layer of AMACO Celadon glaze or underglaze before firing.
Multiple layers produce larger glaze dots, while thinner layers create a finer pearl effect. More layers result in more cracks. For best results, fire at 1200–1230°C.
This glaze is also very suitable for application over a stoneware glaze. The glaze dots will then be less raised or not at all and will bleed slightly.
These glazes are food-safe when applied over AMACO Celadon glazes.
Due to variations in the raw materials used in production, we recommend firing glazed test tiles before using each new glaze batch number.
