Roderveld kilns

Roderveld, the dutch manufacturer of first class pottery equipment, has the special pyramid kilns in his scope of supply:

The pyramid is a kiln that excels because of its simplicity and efficiency. It offers enormous prospects for experimenting. It can be fired with wood or propane gas, in reduction or oxidising, for RAKU, biscuit or full glaze firing, either fully aded or for a quick firing with just one pot.

Because of its pyramid shape, the heat in the kiln is deflected downwards before leaving via the flue. This results in a very fast temperature increase while using little energy, because of its shape and good insulation. For example, about 5 - 7 Raku firings to a temperature of 1050°C can be obtained from a net 11 kg propane gas holder.

The first firing will take about 75 minutes, and subsequent firings 60 minutes to reach that temperature.
Firing the kiln with wood is even quicker. After firing the kiln with dry wood for about one hour, one can reach temperature and unload every 30 minutes with a minimal amount of wood.

The slanting position of the door means that, because of its weight, it always locks the kiln tight. But it can still be opened quickly and easily, or just open a crack to check on the melting of the glaze, which is very useful for RAKU firing.

Moreover, because this kiln's door is aside instead of at the top there's less risk of burnt eyelashes and eyebrows and thus SAFER.

The pyramid shaped cap, made of 1,5 - 2 mm thick enamelled steel, has been welded spirally; this is done to avoid deformation during the fire. It has also two grips on the outside, so that removing the kiln is very easy.

Because of its economical firing, fast rise of temperature and safe use, the PYRAMID is a versatile powerful and affordable kiln for every enthusiastic potter!
